Hurricane Beryl Crossed Jamaica Leaving One Person Dead

The hurricane is traveling at 33 kilometers per hour and will hit the Cayman Islands in the next few hours.
Hurricane Beryl, which upgraded to Category 3 in the early hours of Thursday, struck Jamaica on Wednesday, leaving one person dead.

The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) reported that, as a result of the powerful winds accompanying Beryl, around 400,000 people were left without electricity.
Winds exceeding 215 kilometers per hour caused damage to parts of the roof of Kingston’s Norman Manley International Airport, said the terminal operator, PAC Kingston Airport Limited.
In the bulletin issued at 6:00, the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported that Beryl now has maximum sustained winds of 205 kilometers per hour, with stronger gusts, making it a Category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale.
Currently, the hurricane is traveling at 33 kilometers per hour and will hit the Cayman Islands in the next few hours. Beryl maintains its west-northwest trajectory, so the core of the hurricane will reach Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula on Friday morning.
However, starting Thursday night, that Mexican region will experience tropical storm-force winds. Beryl has already caused severe material damage in Grenada, Saint Vincent & the Grenadines, and Venezuela. This hurricane, the first of the 2024 Atlantic season, has left eight people dead so far.
On Wednesday, the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) expressed its willingness to provide assistance to families affected by Hurricane Beryl and to collaborate in the restoration of daily life in the Caribbean countries.
